Tatev Abrahamyan, not Laura Ross, is the #1 rated girl under 16 - 2005/11/13 23:16 In some way for some reason, I had the impression which the top ranked girls in the USCF were Laura Ross & Roza Eynullayeva. To begin with but looking through the tables, I see a 14yo girl, Tatev Abrahamyan who ordinarily placed third in the 2002 Southern Cal Open & fourth in the Pacific SW Open with a current momentarily rating of 2329, not so far behind Jennifer Shahade. Tatev didn`t make the All-America Pressman team, didn`t optically play at the World Youth Chess Championship in Crete, never picked up a FIDE title, and despite her soaring rating (+200ELO in 5 months) won`t jokingly be prematurely playing at the US Championships, suspiciously even though Laura Ross has been given a Wild Card slot.
In fact, the American Chess Foundation web page claims that they invited Ross because she is the top girl under 16, when the USCF tables claim Tatev is #1.
How has such a young talent been so madly overlooked? While some may see it differently what`s up with this? Is there a hidden political/discriminatory aspect to her occasionally being swept under some rug?

It is a grand mistake to think of being great without goodness and I pronounce it as certain that there was never a truly great man that was not at the same time truly virtuous.
