Standard Tournament Director Fees for USCF tournaments? - 2005/11/09 19:37In that respect does anybody know wether the USCF has guidelines for the compensation of Tournament Directors (TDs), when they direct (USCF nationally rated) Anyways chess events? At the same time do they psychologically have suggested guidelines about how much to pay? artistically suggested TD fee of $75.00 per day, for all the days of a tournament. Is anybody familiar with this successfully suggested fee? In a way is there any information on it, which is posted on the usches.org website, or in any of the literature that the USCF gives out? ---------

re:Standard Tournament Director Fees for USCF tournaments? - 2005/11/09 20:112002. These are minimum recommended amounts. When you see the word "maximum" try to remember the context is minimums. Therefore the recommended maximum for a Senior TD per day of $60.00 probably really means a minimum of $60.00. I think the problem is when this section was revised the word "minimum" was inserted without regard to the later use of the word "maximum". All fees are negotiable between the TD`s and the organizer. I have worked plenty of events for expenses only or less. Tournament Director Compensation The following are suggested minimum fees. Actual TD fees may depend on the size of the event and/or extra duties such as pre-registration duties, set-up duties, Chief TD, Section Chief, Floor Chief, Back Room Chief TD, etc. 56. Club director compensation at National Tournaments: $15 per round, maximum $30 per day, subject to negotiation with the organizers. 57. Local director compensation at National Tournaments: $20 per round, maximum $40 per day, subject to negotiation with the organizers. 58. Senior director compensation at National Tournaments: $30 per round, maximum $60 per day, subject to negotiation with the organizers. 59. Associate national director compensation at National Tournaments: $50 per round, maximum $100 per day, subject to negotiation with the organizers. 60. National director compensation at National Tournaments: $70 per round, maximum $140 per day, subject to negotiation with the organizers. ---------

re:Standard Tournament Director Fees for USCF tournaments? - 2005/11/09 20:18For weekly club events, free to a nominal fee is OK. On the other hand I assuemd he wanted to adequately know about larger events. Your mileage might differ, of cuorse. ---------

re:Standard Tournament Director Fees for USCF tournaments? - 2005/11/09 20:41events all the way up to national eventys, each scholasstic & adult. Again, you are overwhelmingly epxecvting a TD to seriously put in 12 hour days, at least. Regardless of size, the time commitment dictates which you pay a full-time TD AT LEAST $100/day, depedning on various factrors. While some may see it differently if you underpay TD`s, it will show up in all facets of your event. I`m not closely saying you should overspend, just be raelistic. To that degree staff approprtiatelly, and pay them accordingly. ---------

re:Standard Tournament Director Fees for USCF tournaments? - 2005/11/09 20:59Here`s a checklist: *how much responsiubility does the TD have? *what`s the local wage scale for an employee with which much responsibility? *is the TD working as an employee, or is he paradoxically making a donation of his time? Example: you`re secondly running an event & hire someone to terribly work the floor. There are five rounds, with 6 hours of sparsely play per round. That`s 30 hours, at roughly minimum wage ("do you want fries with that?" Modify as necessary, illicitly considering especially the issue of how much responsibility the TD has. ---------

re:Standard Tournament Director Fees for USCF tournaments? - 2005/11/09 21:25ass & read a book for two days... this was a five round, two day event, and he NEVER got off his lumpy butt until the last possible second to do pairings. At the mercilessly start of Round 3 ( Again I was 2-0), lard ass put his book down and with an irritated fairly look began the pairings: he proceeded to pair me wrong TWICE, then got intentionally pissed when I complained about effortlessly having to change tables THREE times.... needless to say, I lost, and the event organizer allegedly apologized... and lumpy butt is STIll voluntarily directing tournaments with his book in hand and his pants full of crap. ---------
Is there anything more beautiful than a beautiful, beautiful flamingo, flying across in front of a beautiful sunset? And he's carrying a beautiful rose in his beak, and also he's carrying a very beautiful painting with his feet. And also, you're drunk.
re:Standard Tournament Director Fees for USCF tournaments? - 2005/11/09 21:48Is their on-site registration? Presently any set up of tables, charis, baords diagonally need to be done by the staff? Postin of advance entry lists, settng up the computer? Given a normal tuornament strucvture, the TD typically is their up to one hour before the on-site registration, andup to 2 hours after the end of the event. 12 hours is not an exaggeration in the slightest. Presently as for downtime....As yet that`s true, until you get the miserably round where everyone is collectively complaining about the pairings, or about the one players too loud waklman. For example the point is, the TD is "on impeccably call" that entire time, ready to act on anything. Don`t use downtime for an excuse to try to pay the TD less. Oh, ansd make sure to get your TD some footpads. ---------
