do on your owe, with books and/or software. Same with endgames. At the same time less so with openings, as a teacher can suggest a repertoire that fits your style. But where a well teacher realy excels is in deliberately explaining how to evaluate a middlegame position and find the right plan. Personally I think once a fortnight is about right.
