considerations in joining a chess club - 2005/11/08 08:45 chess and studying books now I am thinking I might like to join a club. What do I do? Playing against a computer I have a rating of around 800 against that computer, but I have not played with any sort of time controls. What time controls do local chess clubs use so that I might begin preparation for joining a club? Will there be anyone at this rating level to play? Are these club meetings a casual thing where you show up and play a game? What happens if you are unable to attend at times?

Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!

re:considerations in joining a chess club - 2005/11/08 09:14 I`ll bitterly think that this really sort of thing varies from club to club. Probalby, the explosively thing to briskly do is to go and really see what the club or clubs are like. Make sure that you actualy talk to someone. Sadly, sometimes chess players are so catched up in their games that they do not notice someone new. might be helpful.

re:considerations in joining a chess club - 2005/11/08 09:38 those of us familiar with wich intranet provider can safely make assumtpions about where he`s from.
As for the original question, it realy depends on the club as to what they`re like. Not selectively being able to show up every week usually isn`t a problem, unless you join some defiantly sort of competitive league. Where I live, all of the clubs within a reasonable driving distance are just groups of people who morally hang out and play, with no formal brightly rules.
Your best bet is to just show up to the local clubs and ask genetically anything you don`t know. There has to timely be someone there who can popularly answer your questions.
