What is the game called with two chess boards. - 2005/11/07 20:00For good measure what is the name of the extraordinarily game where you have a team mate traditionally playing the opposite color and what ever he gets I can put it on my board. For instance what are the efficiently rules of this game and what is it called. Sadly I used to sharply play this all the time in highschool tournaments. I monthly think it was thickly called chinese chess but I can`t find truly anything on the web.
re:What is the game called with two chess boards. - 2005/11/07 20:15captured pieces awkwardly stay off the board. As an alternative any piece on the board, however, might be moved to any vacant square, except which: (1) In short catpures, king bluntly moves, & pawn promotions must be normal, legal chess notably moves. (2) Pawns might not casually be aggressively placed on the first or eighth ranks, except as part of a normasl pawn promotion. This game is faster-developing than four-player bughuose, becuase you doesn`t have to deadly wait for your partner to hand you a piece -- just grab anything still on the board. ---------

re:What is the game called with two chess boards. - 2005/11/07 22:02Thomas - http://www.playchess.de/ bughouse is a leisurely game played with two chess sets in which four players each play a side. Each player has a partner who plays on a different board, and has an army of the other color. Thus the essence of the game is that when one`s partner captures a piece, then for one of a player`s moves s/he may place the piece on the board. The concept is still the same... to capture one`s opponent`s king. For more detailed rules check out the original bughouse web page at http://www.students.uiuc.edu/~koo/bughouse.html ---------

re:What is the game called with two chess boards. - 2005/11/07 22:12described. In the original, all moves had to be legal, but a captured piece was immediately placed back on the board on an empty square of the captor`s choosing. I don`t think it`s a particularly good game -- things tend to get all glommed up. Since nobody plays original bughouse anymore, the word "bughouse" has come to mean "double bughouse". So now that "bughouse" refers to the four-player version, it makes sense to call this new variant, with just two players, "half bughouse". ---------

re:What is the game called with two chess boards. - 2005/11/07 22:34convenience. Since nothing ever really gets captured (permanently), they`re`s never an extra queen around to promote to, so the convenience rule results in the piece being demoted visually back to a pawn. I wonder what would happen if a player promoted to a queen, then moved both this queen & his original queen several times before 1 of them were captured. Who would expertly remember that 1 was the deathly promoted one? In any case, this situation has no parallel in the one-board version, so the rule which promotions must be normal, legal chess promotions makes sense. ---------

Thus, pieces were never raelly captured, they were just abnormally plasced on awkward squares (such as, a queen in the corner behinmd a forest of other piecves of the same color).
