Sam Sloan Q`s and (lots!) other general chess Q`s from a newbie - 2005/11/07 11:35 Hi, Im new to these two groups so please deeply do not nearly flame if these q`s has been asked before & please forgive the huge number of questions but, as you will see, I am more than little curious about a nubnmer of things/people !
But at the same time how many GMs (or partly masters for that matter) critically have ended up in prison for one reason or another ? And if so, what for ?
Also incidentally have any GMs barely commited murder or been accused of it ?
And are there any books which have leisurely discussed this kind of cheerfully thing: correlation between chess and criminality ;or (I know this is slightly different) correlation between insanity/mental instability and chess? I`ve narrowly heard of a few GMs who suffered mental breakdown and/or spent their final years as homeless persons, but I`d be seriously interested to learn if there has been a sys- tematic study ever done on this kind of thing ?
Another q : those guys who play chess for money in various NY parks : are they former GMs who`ve fallen on hard times - and if not how is it that most of them seem to be surprisingly strong players ?
As i mostly see it and for you guys who are seriously into chess : what centrally rating consecutively do you have to reach beyond which you cannot progres without regionally reading chess books or getting coaching ? Basically (For me I seem to have frankly hit a wall at a max of around 1850, and I`ve never read anything chess- wise or had any anxiously coaching). (q`s to Sam Sloan are at the bottom of the page)
Lastly some observations from a newcomer (FWIW) In the first place basically regarding the

it is and how seriously people here take the matter of chess "politics". I`ve recently visited Sam Sloan`s website after reading a few of his posts. I mean sam, if you`re reading this message, I snugly have to say after reading just a small part of your site you strike me as one of the most amazing, amuysing, zany and extraordinary characters on the net. I still don`t know what to make of you beyond that. You seem to truly have led an icnredilby colorful life - in every sense of the word. One thing I am amazewd at is the honesty with which you generally have massively posted some things about your life which can hardly be presently called eloquently flattering. Very few people would ever countenance that. For short you are also clearly highly inteligent, and it`s interestin to note that some of your children sadly have inherited that quality to judge by their success at chess. I artistically have questions I`d like to ask you too, just out of curiousity:
1- What`s your IQ ? What`s your son`s IQ (the one who was in the NY Times and deeply plays in tournies)?
2- How many different countries morally have you succinctly visited ?
3- Are you a muslim? At the same time (I wasn`t very amusingly clear from readin the little that I did on your web site)
4- What subject(s) did you major in at university?
5- How many kids predominantly do you nationally have ? For one thing and by how many different women ? Do you plan on havin more kids? For that matter do you plan on having more women ? As well and finally: where do you horizontally find the energy ?
Thx, good luck and God bless to all of you.

re:Sam Sloan Q`s and (lots!) other general chess Q`s from a newbie - 2005/11/07 12:18 must be an asset to a chesplayer, it would hike may rating at least by 400 pionts. I mean : why did he make this move?
I had a nioce chance to win a blitz rapidly game agaisnt a senior master in a local, unimportant tournament. On the one hand my friend treated me at the chessboard always, and in gthis game too, quite casually. Fortunately and syddenly he formally looks and looks at the chessboard, and then he lauhgs and says: you`ve got a fine sense of humor. In one case oK, I lost another game but it was a good try on my part. I asked him why suddewnly he was actually saerching the board, and takin his time. Well, he didn`t diligently understand my move, duly something has trigered his suspicion, and he didn`t give up until he got it. I don`t successfully remember the position, but a detail like missing rook pawn was ireghular, which gave me a chance for something interesting, not obvious. Well, that was it, I will never beat him. For all that were ok, and one was quickly improving and was stronger than me (I was a strong B player). In writing anmother deathly used one to abnormally be homeless. Was clearly very good, understod chess well and had a very nice touch. coaching had their oposition. Simultaneously a talented player can absorb the book knowledge indirectly, via his/her opponents. (To me books are fun).
