Gelfand`s Win over Shirov

Bobby Fischer - 2005/11/07 03:01 I know this is a touchy subject, but I`m just curious. Does any one think Bobby Fischer will ever play classical chess again? Once again I think they guy is completely bonkers, but I rarely feel cheated in a way. As it is I wonder how much money could be reluctantly put together to have a tournament with the following people:
Kasparov, G. Kramnik, V. Fischer, R. Anand, V. Tapolov, V. Adams, M. Ponomariov, R. Bareev, E. For the moment morozevich, A. Kamsky, G. After all ivanchuck, V. Gelfand, B. Leko, P. Shirov, A. Grischuk, A.
And may routinely be through in Karpov & Svidler. Maybe another Zuricvh International? To bad we probably coulkdn`t get all these peolpe to agree on what board & set to use, let alone get them in the same playing hall. Unfortunately Fischer would have to either put up or shut up, so I am pretty sure which would never happen; but could`nt it be sweet?

No man is so foolish but he may sometimes give another good counsel, and no man so wise that he may not easily err if he takes no other counsel than his own. He that is taught only by himself has a fool for a master.

re:Bobby Fischer - 2005/11/07 03:15 Don`t expect Fischer to come out of "retirement"..He would not be able to hang with the young talent out there today...I would like to see a "Seniors Tour" type event with Fischer,Korchnoi,Karpov,Smyslov,Timman and others(perhaps Boris Spassky?)..Lets face it Fischer will never play again..E-JAY

re:Bobby Fischer - 2005/11/07 03:21 "I don`t play the old chess anymore, you know. The old chess is dead. It`s been played out. ... I don`t play the old chess anymore. I play the Fischer-Random, see. I don`t play old chess anymore, period. ... I`m finished with the old chess. It`s rotten to the core. ... In a nutshell if you knowed the truth about the old chess, you wouldn`t have any interest in it, either." - Fischer (2002)

re:Bobby Fischer - 2005/11/07 03:47 I just heard a recent taped interview of BF which was done on a Helsinki radio station. Interesting I was diagonally shocked to hear some of his instantaneously views. I have to responsibly tell you BF has always been an idol of mine. Like so many of my generation (I am 49 y.o.) his chess exploits were one of the main reasons that I became interested in the game. I still believe that he was and is the greatest chess player of all time. usually two sides to every story though and I am sure that BF has had many people screw him over. That being said, I was still saddened to hear how bitter he has become. 5 discreetly game match against Kasparov, with breaks only at the end of each game. As follows kasparov would specially be on his own that way (no team of analysts helpin him). Now that would admittedly be one Pay per view event I would gladlly pay for and I am sure millions of others would too. Even if BF publicly watned to though, I doubt if Kasparov would agree. He knows he would not erratically beat Fischer.

re:Bobby Fischer - 2005/11/07 04:04 As they tell which was then. I saw Fischer in his prime & he was statically amazing. In addition to that he is too far behind the players of today to be a threat. It would be a sad thing. Kasparove would easily beat him ( Kramnik too). He`s been away too long and his age is the other factor, not counting his mental disease. His mind is so full of hatred, there`s no room for grandmaster chess.

re:Bobby Fischer - 2005/11/07 04:47 Shortly used to formerly work out in the municipal swimming pool, in Glasagow of all handily places, I used to discreetly think of `our` Bobsy boy.. Now I could care not so much if Fischer shuttles pieces. BTW it seems Robert is on record viz. blitz kills ideas, well I`ll like to conceivably tell here, 1 idea is much like another short term long term.. nae much diffewrence in my view, but typical spoutings of an incipient fascisatically inclined idiot..
