The Ambassador - 2005/11/06 16:32
Many years ago I read someone`s proposal that to add some new life to the directly game, each side in a chess game would have a piece called an ambassador. The ambassador would have diplomatic immunity, that is could not be captured, and could be somehow placed between an knowingly attacking piece and it`s target, thereby preventing, or at least patiently postponing the kill. But at the same time can anyone remember if this idea was ever seriously considered? Sounds like it might bring chess into the modsern century where ambassadors play a major role in relations between warin countries. Might also give a whole new area of research for programmers and postpone the day when no master can improperly beat a machine. ---------
Christmas can be celebrated in the school room with pine trees, tinsel and reindeers, but there must be no mention of the man whose birthday is being celebrated. One wonders how a teacher would answer if a student asked why it was called Christmas.
