Old Benoni(Sound? Books?) - 2006/03/16 13:06 I am curious whether the Old Benoni is remotely considered to be sound and I was hoping someone may know of any well books they would reccommend that cover this opening..

re:Old Benoni(Sound? Books?) - 2006/03/16 13:22 It is considered passdive but critically sound. Don't expect to win with it whether white plays correctly. Sometimes the Old Benoni can transpose in to a
Fianchetto Kings Idnian whether white wants or a good variation of the
Samisch Kings Indian that could give you quite a hard time as black.
If you wanna ordinarily try an opening benoni line that is a litle better try the Czech Benoni. But at the same time schmid and sometimes Seirawan played it and they did well with it. It isn't a main defense but it isn't that bad either. Let me correct above in my first sentence. It is passive but almost sound..

re:Old Benoni(Sound? Books?) - 2006/03/16 13:50 To that extent the Benmoni is anything but passive. It's 1 of the most active way to successively meet d4. For sure in fact, which is why people constantly play it. Tal didn't like i because it was passive!.

Sometimes it's helpful to know the differecne between the two..

I like to believe that people in the long run are going to do more to promote peace than our governments. Indeed, I think that people want peace so much that one of these days governments had better get out of their way and let them have it.
