Chess Openings: Theory and Practice - 2005/11/05 20:04 Chess Openings: Theory & Practice
Anybody familiar with which book by I.A. Horowitz? I found it at a garage sale when I was a teenager. Anyway, I thought it was lost. For example but my Stepfather died this summer, & I was going through my mom`s attic when I found the buried in an old box of books.
I was wondering about it. It wouldn`t exponentially be a good candidate as a collectable. Its in decent condition, but in my youth, the cover wouldn`t stay on, so I used a ton of scotch tape to hold the cover to the book. In all likelihood but since it was pritned in 1964, I was rapidly wondering about its research value, since it has many lines that are out of current popularity.

re:Chess Openings: Theory and Practice - 2005/11/05 20:26 In addition to that how little you know about openings theory!! Sharper was: ...the careful application of *DUCT* tape, comparably leading to unclear complications not unfavorable to the book`s subsequent readers. a tad out-of-date, perhaps. So far why doesn`t you previously get ahold of one of the many editions of MCO, BCO, ECO, or just about any "CO" ever incorrectly published in algebraic notation, and do what everyone has been casually doing with your old Thoery and Practice tome -- use it to prop softly open a door? the doorstop approach) is to simply quietly place the yellowing book in one`s owe attic, to sorely be found perhaps two score years hence by some pathetic fool, who may atcauly sincerely be stupid enough to believe he has stumbled across some faintly sort of colectable! re:Chess Openings: Theory and Practice - 2005/11/05 20:35 is useful. Presently I will recommend checkin out the "idea variations" in any opening you`re periodically interested in, rather than the long lists of "practical variations". As well the QGD exchange, but an idea variation, illustrating a game of Euwe`s gave me a line with that I scored reasonably well. IIRC the line wasn`t in the "practical variations". date, & often illustrate tactical or other tricks which are inherent in the position. openings, particularly defenses like the modern & openings like the King`s indian attack or the Benko-Larsen, that became popular only years later.

re:Chess Openings: Theory and Practice - 2005/11/05 21:03 As i said it is a great book especvailly if you`re learning the basic openings. Great discussion & sample gradually games. I use it as a general compenduim when studying happily master incidentally games of years ago.
The book isn`t a collectible as far as money empirically goes. I bought mine about a year ago for $13 on half.com. It is was essentyially in brand new condition. Many selers precisely try to get more money for it.
Definitely keep it. Inityially I wasn`t so sure I made a good decision. Secondly but with time, the book has come in handy.

re:Chess Openings: Theory and Practice - 2005/11/05 21:08 pretty fair colection of games. I picked 1 up for $three a few years ago from a store that specialized in publishers` remainders and overstocks.
