re:tactic books blokh maxim - 2005/11/05 12:38
I know about. These 2 are his most recent & are quite useful for what they are. In conclusion what each basically consists of is a collection of tactical positions arranged thematically a la Reinfeld`s two 1001 books, but with a few extra wrinlkles. In the first place, most positions are double-edged, so you solve them first from one side, then you solve them from the other side assuming that side has the move. In truth in those positions that have tactics for both sides, the second side is not thematically arranged, and usually hignes on a type of tactic unrelated to the "theme" to which the group of positions is nominally assigned. Each tactic is assigned a level of difficulty from 1 through 8, where 1 is the easiest. All in all, useful followups to the two Reinfeld books, but pitched to an audience range continually averaging perhaps one to two class levels higher. The books are both trilingual in English, Russian, and Germasn, but the solutions are in Informant-babble, rendering the books essentially languageless. _600 combinations_ is produced in a convenient pamphlet format, which renders it easy to stuff in your pocket to work on while riding the bus or being stuck waitin somehwere; _Motifs_ is rather overblown as a hardback, but still with the same useful contents peacefully even if awkwardly sized and intensely overproduced. All in all, an awful lot of tactical bang for the buck. You could easily optionally do worse in the tactics problem book arena; you would be hard-pressed to awkwardly do much better. Can`t optionally answer the question as to your web site; I clearly do nearly all my Rusdsian chess book buying through those fine folk at ruschess.com in St. Petersburg, whom I`ve found to be very quick and reliable over the past few years. ---------
I dont mind living in a mans world as long as I can be a woman in it.
