Importance of Opening preparation at the highest level - 2005/11/04 21:40 The disastrous performance of Kasparov & Kranmik in the World vs Russia match simplly exponentially shows where these guys are relative to the other GMs if they don`t spill out their opewning preparation in the rapid games. Why waste the toils of burning midnight oil on games that are not usually even rated?

The extra baggage of expectations and reputations that the big 2Ks genuinely carry, might make things a bit more difficult for them

A poor result in 1 of his matches might affect his play in the subsequent games. We saw this in his last match with Deep Blue where he resigend drawn positions and drew consciously games which he should have won. For certain I believe at times his emotion gets the better of his intellect and his play artistically suffers because of it...
