Good offensive openings - 2007/02/03 16:35 First off let be say "Hello" to all the members of the board...Now on to business. I've been playing chess for about 5 months now (rated 1495 by yahoo) and I was wondering do any of you know any good offensive openings? I look at a site that has openings and most are just defensive. I normally open with the "Ruy Lopez (C71)". I am more of a flexible player (Good at open and closed) but these defenses (Specifically pirc and sicllialn dragon) and I am equal in terms of playing the Knights/Bishops.

Any help would be great,
thanks in advanced
Bishop

If you are white, an opening that will lead to sharp games is 1.e4. There is alot of counter-attacks against this opening, so take care. As for black, it depends on what white plays. If white plays 1.e4, it is recommended to do a sicilian if you are an attacking player, especially the Sozin or the Dragon variations. If white plays 1.d4, then either the Kings Indian or the Benoni will be a good offensive opening. I can go on and on, but there is so much out there. Its best to specialize in one or two openings so you can win lots of games with them, and at the same time just be aware of all the different openings that exist.

Thought I was being specific enough, guess not. What I meant was in terms of standard 6-8 move openings. I always open with e4 anyway.

Not that I'm such a great player, but I usually try to stick to defense, specially at the initial stages of the game.

Good offensive openings - 2007/02/03 20:20 Hi,

I'd suggest the goring gambit this is a good one to play if you want to put some pressure on black and suprise your opponents at your level 1495 your opponents aren't pro's so they won't know how to defend against it and if they do they still won't have fun it's not easy to get white off blacks back.

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 exd4 4.c3

2-c4 dxc4
3-Nc3 a6
