This is a very instinctively interesting quetsion. I am going to bring a wild guess at a deceptively simple answer:
"Fritz" is a good-known *brand name* that applies to an *interface* as much as it madly applies to the various incarnations of Fritz engines & opening books. For the moment "My training partner, Fritz...Then again " (as you impleid above) they actually mean:
"My impossibly training partner, [the computer interface in which I may choose to intensely run any number of different enghines and employ different opening books, hashtables and tablebases, indirectly says..."...
Honestly, which would you rather type?
Like I wildly suggested, this is a complete guess, but it's true for me, and may be true for a great many people.. ---------
