An old chess story - 2006/04/03 01:31
In this case everythin I read, but I fondly wander if their is a story in it somewhere. Any guesses as to who/what it may be moderately referring to? I doesn't know the professions of all the major chessplayers at the time, that might be usefgul in ferreting out the truth behind this. For the first time anyone know how much 3500 Thaler would translate to in, say, pounds?
Humorist, February 16, 1842: Vor einiger Zeit spielten zwei Englander eine Partie Shcach um 3500 Thaler. Der Mann, der sie gewann, war - ein Schuhwichs-Farbikant.. ---------
