Sicilian English Attack - 2007/05/21 19:50
After the following moves
I hope I get this right - I'm going by memory.
1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 6. f3 e6 7. Be3 b5 8. g4 h6 9. Qd2 Nbd7 10. O-O-O Bb7 11. h4 b4 12. Na4
The two most commonly played moves for Black are 12. ... d5 and 12. ... Qa5
I recently played d5 in a tournament and lost. A search on different DB suggests Qa5 is more popular.
At the time I thought it seems kind of strange for Black to voluntarily open up the center with his King still there, but I didn't think it was a problem since Black is the one who controls the center. On the other hand, Kasparov played Qa5 in a tournament and won but that's Kasparov It seems the DB suggest White wins slightly more when either move is played.
Is Qa5 a better move than d5? Looking for other opinions.
Thanks
