Chess is neither an addiction, nor a drug, it is a game for "people who like to think a little depper than the avarege" (IoanaAda) For some people it's an addictive game because humans are slaves of their success; if you win a game you would like to repeat that, possibly against a better opponent. Life is another game, most addictive for most people, and nobody protests! At some point one can like chess so much to the point of passion (being obsessed, geting "revelations" etc. For most this is beneficial but, as in all upturns (e.g, "love"), and all sports (e.g, "all") accidents are not excluded.
