Re:HOBBS-ZILBERMINTS GAMBIT - 2007/07/06 19:23First, that's just chickening out of all the fun. Second, after 1 f4 h6 2 e4 d5 or even 2...d6, intending 3...g6, 4...Bg7, Black is OK.
After 1 f4 h6 2 e4 d5 3 ed5 Qd5 4 Nc3 Qa5 Black is OK.
Re:HOBBS-ZILBERMINTS GAMBIT - 2007/07/07 02:26>>that's just chickening out of all the fun<< not much of an argument when faced with an opponent that plays it, I'm afraid. >>1 f4 h6 2 e4 d5 3 ed5 Qd5 4 Nc3 Qa5 Black is OK<< no need to trade, something like 3. Nf3 (if dxe4 then Ne5) is going to be more critical.
Recognize that h6 is an odd move that does nothing for Black strategically and in fact weakens him at least some.
Re:HOBBS-ZILBERMINTS GAMBIT - 2007/07/07 13:50Not really. After 1 f4 h6 2 e4 d5 3 Nf3 Nf6! Black is still in the game. As an alternative, Black can still play 1 f4 h6 2 e4 g6
