Comment on my game - new member :-) - 2007/08/05 09:46 Hi, first to introduce myself, my name is Ben , I have been playing chess for years now, but not until now have I had the time / and the determinationto try and improve . This is a game I have played on ICC, where my username is justdoit172. I would appreciate if someone was to analyse this game , and especially comment on the soundness of the bishop sacrifice, which interestnigly the computer does not pick up as good only after it is played . Thanks for your input.

here is the pgn:

Comment on my game - new member :-) - 2007/08/07 00:46 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 dxe4 4. Nxe4 Bf5

5. Nc3? white should play ng3 to hit the bishop going back gives black the initiative.
5... e6
6. a3? there is no need to prevent this pin white should gladly ask black to give up his bishops nc3 would be better
6... Qa5? allows white to develop his bishop sooner or later with tempo with bd2.
7. bd2 qb6
8. rb1? whites b,c and d pawn are targets.
8... nf6? Qxd4 even though black lacks in development whites kingside is not developed nor is he castled
9. be3? black does not have to move the queen yet as d5 does not win a piece. Don't move pieces twice in the opening. White should place nf3.
9... Qd8? Qc7 keeps the queen active and planning bd6 to put some pressure on white if he castles
10. bd2 nd7
11.nf3 bd6
12.0-0 Qc7
13.g3 its hard to find a good plan for white blacks bishop are just raking the board
13... h5! rip open whites kingside
14. bd3 bh3
15. re1 ng4?
16. ng5 nf6?
17. nxh3 h4 black contines with his plan
18. bf4? bishop should guard f2. bf1! more resistance i think. If hxg fxg than later white will want to nd2 since the bishop would already be on f1 heading for g2 and bring the knight on h3 back into play.
18.. hxg4 white is lost here.
PS the bishop was not sacked it was blundered thats y Fritz would not see it. I think white could have resisted and won the game with proper defence. Hope this has helped. Peace out
Mike
