Can you find it - mate in 12 - 2007/08/30 04:53 Hehe this came from an interesting game I played yesterday - it was whites turn ( i was white ) and I played Qe2. However there is a better move - a 12 move mate that Rybka found . Interestingly this game was full of mate opportunities in the endgame too. I mightpost another position from that game where rybka found a 30!! move mat for my opponent. Maybe another time , first though here is the mate in 12 problem .
White to move :
An no cheating OK

Can you find it - mate in 12 - 2007/08/31 03:47 I guess no one was able to work it out . The answer is 1. Qd5!! and there is no answer to the mate threat.

Can you find it - mate in 12 - 2007/08/31 09:26 I wish I had more time to learn about chess.... It's so annoying that when I decided to take this up seriously a huge amount of time got absorbed in things I hadn't foreseen.

I would have loved to (have been able to) 'solve' this

Can you find it - mate in 12 - 2007/08/31 13:39 Hi Dame , Yes I know what you mean , chess takes up a lot of time doesn't it. But if it makes you feel better I wouldn't have been able to work the above problem either.

Can you find it - mate in 12 - 2007/09/02 11:38 I think that most chess players are able to find the move 1.Qd5! because
it is a mate in one threat
and it defends the attacked Knight

but almost all human players are probably unable to see that it is actually a mate in 12.

I think that I see that the mate attempt will probably succeed, but I don't see how many moves it will take.

Can you find it - mate in 12 - 2007/11/01 23:27 It's funny I can't see the 12 moves but i said to myself
Qd5 is just as good as anything. I am under no threats of mate myself and i am up material why not threaten mate if the Bishop Blocks at e6 which makes sense then i will take with the Knight with check pawn takes back Rook takes pawn. With Queen f3 and Rook to the 7th coming i am pretty happy. I have to get better at calculation but this is how i believe my brain works when i look at positions. I could be wrong and i could get burnt but i hope not.

Can you find it - mate in 12 - 2008/01/22 22:49 Qd5 is the obvious move, the strongest any one can point at the glance. If 1...Be6 2 Rxe6 fxe6 3 Qxe6 the position is hair raising now. If 1...Rd7 protecting f7 then 2 Qe5 where mate can be delayed only for a while and at a very high cost for black. I guess mate in 12 is very possible. To include here the details I think is not necessary. For me, to find the winning move is enough
