sveshnikov/pelikan - 2007/09/28 09:25 Hi, anybody know an antidote to 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 e5 6. Ndb5 d6 7. Bg5 a6 8. Na3 Be6!? Its a variation I having great probs with @ the moment. So far most promising seems to be 9. Nd5. 9. Nc4 only leads to equality- any ideas/analysis gratefully accepted.

Re:sveshnikov/pelikan - 2007/09/30 00:08 Nd5 makes no sense to me in this position. Nc4 looks like a good move to me since the knight can come quickly to e3 to control the important d5 and f5 squares. After white kills the knight on f6 black will probably have to play the dark squared bishop to h6 to try to kill your nice e3 knight. It will be a good game for white but of course black will have winning chances too (like all good sicilian variations), probably by trying to crush your centre with his pawns.

Your are too quick to dismiss Nc4, it is a very complex and fun game for both sides. Perhaps it is "equal" but the position is so complicated that the best player will probably win.

Re:sveshnikov/pelikan - 2007/10/17 11:00 A very intriguing position is reached after the forced line 9.... Nd4 10. Bxf6 gxf6 11 Ne3 f5. I still cant reach a conclusion after many weeks of analysing ( hence my cowardly silence on the subject...!) Any deviation, for example on White's part to play 10 Ne3, really leads to equality. Indubitably. But I think that in the main line so long as he does his hw Black is ok.

Re:sveshnikov/pelikan - 2007/10/18 20:07 Have you tried something like 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 e5 6.Ndb5 d6 7.Bg5 a6 8.Na3 Be6 9.Nc4 Rc8 10.Bxf6 (or 10.Nd5 )

I think White is fine here

Re:sveshnikov/pelikan - 2007/10/23 09:36 Hi ChessTeacher

I find it impossible to have faith in the 9...Rc8 variation, and I do not believe that any of my opponents will find reason to either, so my main analysis will be on a human line that gives black dynamism in his position.
