Is concentrating on chess tactics bad? - 2007/10/29 20:49 http://www.ChessPornography.com is asking the question of whether or not concentrating on chess tactics to the exclusion of chess strategy is a perversion of someone's chess understanding.

I think it is.

What do you think?

Is concentrating on chess tactics bad? - 2007/10/29 21:40 You should learn about both.
Chess Strategy is about the long term plans in chess and chess tactics about the short term plans.
I think that a beginner and intermediate player should be focusing more on tactics than on strategy, but the stronger a player the more important becomes the stategy.

Is concentrating on chess tactics bad? - 2007/10/30 20:11 Studying tactics probably helps the class player improve more than studying strategy. Having said that, as ChessTeacher said, you need to study both. Tactical opportunities are pretty rare if you have a bad position. And bad positions are usually the result of poor position play (strategy).

Is concentrating on chess tactics bad? - 2007/11/01 22:54 You should learn both but When you learn Tactics you Learn Strategy. If you Don't make Strategical Errors how can you be taken advantage of Tactically? Studying Tactics will show you some of the situations to avoid Positionally.
