Re:rest in peace bobby fischer - 2008/02/01 06:09
Bye Bye Bobby Again {I wrote a forum post on this once before}
The day he died. You can never take away what he did for the game of chess. It is a game not a political statement. He was a personal hero of mine . Look what he did for chess WORLDWIDE. That's Cool >>O'k
But he was always so full of himself. The political climate at the time. He took full advantage. Fischer set the stage for so many , grand masters , of today I don't care what country they live in. Arrogance. Plain and simple.
I'll just say it. He used his fame. For his own agenda. He was a man making a living playing a kids game. It is a game after all. Whittle it down.
Ask around , your peers , man/woman on the street. Do you know who Bobby Fischer was / is ? Unless they play chess and are old enough to care Chances are they will tell you.
He sells fish sticks. Yellow rain coat.Right? But I thought it was Mrs. Fisher.
The more I read about his "legacy" . The more it sticks in my craw. And once you've asked about Bobby. Ask about Jay-Lo , O.J , or Milochevich. Bet the person on the street gets 2 of 3 right.
In closeing . Chess has had no place in politics since Ronald Reagan ended the cold war and brought down the Berlin wall.
