Latvian Gambit

Latvian Gambit - 2008/02/21 21:40 Are there any other players out there that play the Latvian Gambit with the black pieces? I just finished playing the this year's World Amateur Team Championship 2008 held in Parsippany, NJ and was lucky enough to get to play (2) Latvian Gambits this year

If anyone's interested, here were the moves from my game. White: S. Ferrero vs E. Pierson 02-18-08 Round 5, 40/2 SD/1 e4, e5, Nf3, f5, Bc4, Qg5, d4, Qxg2, Rf1, Nf6, Nf7, Rg8, Nc3, Bb4, Bg5, d5, Bxd5, Nxd5, Qh5, Kf8, Nd8, Qf3, Qxh7, Bg4 , Ne6+, Kf7, Nf4, Nxf4 White Resigns

Latvian Gambit - 2008/02/23 01:13 Thank you for correcting this oversight. Yes, 3. ...fxe4, 4.Nxe5 was missing. Actually, I posted this the other day without having the actual game scoresheet in front of me and was typing the game from memory. It's known as the Poison Pawn Variation in the Latvian Gambit. Have you also played this before?

Latvian Gambit - 2008/02/23 16:44 No, I have never played this variant.
I love gambits and I played thousands of 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 f5 and 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 f5 but I was never brave enough to play Latvian Gambit.
Maybe now it is time to try it
Let us play two games at the same time starting from 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 f5. One as Black and one as White - what do you think?

Latvian Gambit - 2008/02/25 03:12 potfur,

Actually, Black gets the pawn back in nearly every line so it probably ought rightly to be called the Latvian Defense or some such line. I see a "Play Chess Online" link on this page so I assume one can play on this site also. Cool!
