A Drueke question

Plastic Sets: HOS or Drueke? - 2008/05/09 05:26 A trivia question: About 2.5 years ago I was looking for a good plastic chess set, and went in search of a Drueke Player's Choice set (could not find one) but I was referred to one House of Staunton -- a company I had never heard of -- so I went to the website and found not one but several plastic sets and eventually settled on the Marshall Series first in Red and White, and then later in Black and Natural (so I can mix and match as the spirit moves me). Last month my step brother set me money to buy a wood chess wood board for my birthday so I bought a Rosewood and Maple Deluxe board with 2.25 " squares by Rechapados and Ferrer to which I added brass corner protectors. I took board and the Black and Natural set to the local club and everyone Ooooed and Ahaed over both the look and feel -- and it looked REAL nice to boot on that particular board!!! Oh and the Drueke set... I actually got to play on one ( it said "Drueke" on top of the rook ) when a guy with an expert rating came in with one... while I found the set to be nice and heavy and looked like it could take a beating, or dropped from an airplane and survive, I also found it to be rather, shall I say, "Clunky" looking. It would be interesting to see what your favorite plastic set is to use.
