It is about the way we’re using each other in the wrong ways.

Be well.

Dream of a Common Language - 2008/05/09 19:36 Maybe the mentioned site can be improved by publishing the games in a more (re)playable way like shown on http://chessteaching.blogspot.com/ for example in the post about some traps in the sicilian defence. The mentioned site uses the free LT-PGN viewer, but the major purpose of the site is to demonstrate how you can publish chess games, not about how you can teach chess.

Re:Dream of a Common Language - 2008/05/09 22:44 Thank you for the feedback ChessTeacher. With all due respect, please don’t criticize what you can’t understand. http://chesscoach1950.blogspot.com/ is a deceptively simple looking site—both in terms of content and structure.

Imagine it as an interactive channel that evolves in real-time in accordance with reader request.

But again, your input is well-noted!

Re:Dream of a Common Language - 2008/05/10 11:43 I didn't critize your site. I only gave a suggestion how you should be able to make it more interactive even with the limitations of a blogspot site.

And for people interested in the Trompowsky Opening or other openings I should suggest to view (or download the PGN-files) of the Trompowsky page of the Chess Openings Database. This site contains over 3 million free PGN chess games.

Re:Dream of a Common Language - 2008/05/10 14:34 I’m better off silent. But next time please bring your A Game. I definitely believe in competitive advertising but not if it’s against a weaker mind. And good luck with the internet advertising—by the way.

Re:Dream of a Common Language - 2008/05/10 15:23 I am not affiliated with the Chess Openings Database site and also not with the LT-PGN viewer site.

Re:Dream of a Common Language - 2008/05/10 18:27 Hi, Dame

This is about all of us, and I apologize for coming across rude.

The thrust of my argument is we need to open the door to the possibility of a structural adjustment within the publishing industry—given the troublesome but beneficial advent of the Internet.

Presently, the system is too self-serving. Now I’m not saying let’s deprive people of their profit margins, but I’m saying can’t we set things up in ways that account for one and all? Technically, one blog can cater to every single chess player all over the world, provided of course they have Internet access. Finally, we can level the playing field in terms of access to resources, and thereby also improve content quality significantly.

As some of you probably know, I’ve been exploring this issue for two years now, and my tentative conclusion is we’re better off sharing—to some guarded degree at the very least. Otherwise the unscrupulous will definitely bring the industry down—thanks to the abundant loopholes inherent in the Web.

We really need to think about this!?

Re:Dream of a Common Language - 2008/05/11 12:09 Greengiant, thank you for your reply. As I took it I saw Chessteacher give you some friendly advice on how to make your the games on your blog more user-friendly. Didn't you perceive it as such?

As to the self-serving system. I am afraid I do not get your point. Do you mean over the Internet not all options to free games are available, or? What is it exactly you are going against? The payable sites? Or?

Re:Dream of a Common Language - 2008/05/11 15:59 Hello, Dame

Again, I apologize sincerely to ChessTeacher. His/her suggestions were well-taken. ChessTeacher, if you’re reading this, I say a thousand apologies!

Moving on, does it make sense, Dame, to have the offline and online publishing industry put out books, periodicals, VHS Tapes, and DVDs that are then taken, deconstructed, and enhanced via the Web for enormously huge profit!?

Maybe we can start right there!?

Re:Dream of a Common Language - 2008/05/12 11:13 You mean un-licensed use of material there, GreenGiant? I thought there were laws against that?

Re:Dream of a Common Language - 2008/05/12 16:25 Indeed, there are laws against that. However, what good are they if one can easily undermine them through technology!? Can you sue someone/something you can’t see or find!? To me it seems like we’re playing today’s Football using 19th century gear.

Re:Dream of a Common Language - 2008/05/13 09:00 But how do you think it can be countered then? If there is already a law it seems to me there isn't much left one can do other than watch it isn't broken?
