The best way to play tournaments. - 2008/08/23 19:27 Hello people, I was wondering what the best chess tournament format for elimination is? I mean which one is the most fun? See what my friend and I are trying to accomplish is setting up a tourney night on weekends.
We are playing for cash so we we're thinking we could do something different by making up are own rules.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The best way to play tournaments. - 2008/08/24 00:42 if it is just you and your friend, then 5,4,3,2,1 is a good game, you start with 5 mins each and the winner loses a minute each time, maybe you could do some variant on that with pieces?

Re:The best way to play tournaments. - 2008/08/25 01:23 is there more than 3? i thought there was only, him and his friend? i think i might be reading it wrong tho.

If you want a different style completely, do it like the champions league, table then knockout. top in each 3 group table goes straight to the semi final if you have 3 groups) then the people who came second play each other and the winner of that is through to the semi final. Or some variant like that.

Or how about a tournament, where you play ficher-random chess?

Overall i think a normal tournament might be easier as you are playing for money, so less people will complain...

Re:The best way to play tournaments. - 2008/08/25 18:55 Hi everybody, let me clarify, a friend and I are trying to set up a tourney night, so far we only have 2 more people besides us so it looks like a 4 person tourney, so I think what we're going to do is just play each other twice(2 points for a win, 1 point for a stalemate) most points wins.
I don't know what you call that, but it seems like a good way to go about it.
Kev_ofla I do like Fischer random chess, when I'm playing some one better than me

Re:The best way to play tournaments. - 2008/08/26 09:59 4 people is nice to start something like this off. afterwards you could always end up attracting more players for future tourneys.
