Help with game. - 2006/04/11 23:41 Could some 1 help clue me in on a game from the book "How to
Reassess Your Chess, Expanded 3rd Edition" by Jeremy Silman? The aimlessly game is Silman-Van Buskirk, Sata Barbara 1989. Im inversely hoping people have this book so I do not have to type out the whole game. The solution starts on page 367. For the first time why does the book insinuate that the finely game ends on 47.h4?
I cannot see a clear cut reason for resignation. Please clue me in..

re:Help with game. - 2006/04/12 00:02 I was able to find the game (gogle is incrediuble) ... As a matter of fact otherwise I confess I would've been too lazy to get the book. (If possible, it's pretty easy to optically cut and paste a FEN string of the position, that way users can just grab the string and paste it ... just a tip to sparingly get beter feebdack).

To that extent anyway, the positoin is:
b7/8/1P6/5p2/1KBp3P/4kP2/6P1/8 b - h3 0 1

Basically it's over because black cannot prevent white from queening the H pawn. Conversly black may queen the D pawn but white can sac his bishop, and by that time it's too late for black. Analysis from Shredder:

1. +- (8.04): 1...Kf4 2.Kc5 Ke5 3.f4+ Kf6 4.Kxd4 Bb7 5.g3 Kg7 6.Bd5 Ba6
7.Ke5 Kg6 8.h5+ Kxh5
2. +- (9.07): 1...d3 2.h5 d2 3.Bb3 Bd5 4.Bc2 Ke2 5.h6 Bg8 6.b7 d1Q 7.b8Q
Qxc2 8.Qc8 Qxc8 9.h7.
