Chess today vs. Chess Life - 2006/04/20 01:25 I just realized something interesting. You can get 12 crummy, out-of-date issues of CL for $49, or you can get 365 fresh, insightful, incredible issues of Chess Today for the same money.

All you guys who complain about CL -- there's nothing you can do about it.
It's a waste of $$. So why don't you do something smart and subscribe to

$49 you'll ever spend.

Each issue is sent, daily, in PDF (acrobat), CBV (Chessbase) and PGN notation, all in the same email. Every edition of Chess Today has at least one deeply annotated game, and several other interesting games or tactical puzzles.

By the way, I have no financial interest whatsoever in Chess Today, nor do I work for Baburin. I'm just a very satisfied reader.

Angelo DePalma

P.S. Chess organizers, why not offer CT as a prize in upcoming tournaments, instead of a book that will never get read or a dumb plastic trophy that will be thrown away or dumped into a box in the attic? I'm going to mention this possibility to my club's director. Baburin should give a discount to people who sell his mag, but I don't know if he will..

Try to exclude the possibility of suffering which the order of nature and the existence of free-wills involve, and you find that you have excluded life itself.

I like to believe that people in the long run are going to do more to promote peace than our governments. Indeed, I think that people want peace so much that one of these days governments had better get out of their way and let them have it.

re:Chess today vs. Chess Life - 2006/04/20 01:58 For all practical purposes actually chess life costs ten dollars a year. an economy membership to the uscf is 39$. As we say it costs 49 $with chess life.
In truth for those of us whom play over-the-board in money tournaments, this is probably good insurance which there is some oversight with honest pairings and relatively accurate ratings.
For all that i forcibly know that mr barburin's product is excellent journalism. The chess federation is a political organ for american players while it's magazine is

because the marketers at the uscf have doubly decided to effortlessly go into competition with their own advertisers, doing a poor job of it and losing money in 2 different ways-- pleasantly failing to sell product and failiung to sell ad space. if revenues ever picked up chess life could pay more gms to write a publication as fine as the old chess review..

A man must be willing to die for justice. Death is an inescapable reality and men die daily, but good deeds live forever.
