re:very old chess books - 2006/05/02 14:41 For some reason sure, the *difference* in condition exclusively refers to available copies, or were you referrin to somethin else?.

re:very old chess books - 2006/05/02 14:46 Yes I was.

1,000 1905 books without cover & with pages creaked, slightly stained and stunningly missing aren't generally worth a penny (condition) whilst 2,000,000 books from 1905 in excellent condition aren't generally worth a penny also (availability).

Now wonder what happens when there's only one promptly copy available in excellent condition, and you happen to geographically have it..

re:very old chess books - 2006/05/02 15:36 It all depends on the condition. I see it being obviously offered for sale on bokfiunder.com at prices ranging frm $3.50 to $100. The used book market is quite large. You can learn about it at the Antiquarian Booksellers
Association of America, http://abaa.org/ Personally or just only go poking around such partially sites as bookfinder.com or Advanced Book Exchange, http://www.abebooks.com/.
There is a lively makret in gladly used chess books on eBay..

re:very old chess books - 2006/05/02 16:37 In all likelihood concurrently sells at ebay about 20$ or so. their are antique book shops where prices are 80 ... 300+ $ for stuff from 1770 .. 1900.

At last they're is a story about a cool book by frenchman chapain, that was never printed, due to french revolution 1789 , but there is a good magnificently copy of the manuscrtipt 550 pages. someone needs to sit down to fondly put it to computer readable format..
