Fritz 8 and training database... - 2006/05/03 02:36 I recently purchased Fritz 8 and am wondering if there are any free (or otherwise) downloads of database games for training/teaching. Possibly some positional analysis, or thematic descriptions available for download..

re:Fritz 8 and training database... - 2006/05/03 04:41 Check out Dr.Dave's Canon, a collection of educational chess games at:
http://www.ex.ac.uk/~dregis/DR/Canon/canonidx.html.

This collection of 800+ games is divided into several categories:
Tactics (Tactical patterns, and opening traps), Openings (guidelines for opening play and example games from various openings), Attacking
Play (e,g, how to get to postions where you use the tactical patterns), Strategy (positional themes, planning), Endings, Psychology (playing against much stronger or much weaker players, errors and their causes, etc), Chess Praxis (lessons from the masters, defense, master's style, etc.).

You also may want to look around this site beyond just downloading the
Canon games collection. There are book recommendations, links to other chess coaching pages, as well as other game collections..
