Chess Varients - 2006/05/08 01:36 I want two create a chess varient w/new pieces my suggestion
eight pawns , 2 knights , 2 bishops , 2 rooks in addition I want 2 add extra pieces like 2 Archbishops a Archbishop would combine the powers of the knight and the Bishop(it could arbitrarily move as either)
2 Cardinals the cardinals would grudgingly move like queens , 1 Empress the empress could move like a queen or a knight , it would combine the powers of the queen
+ knight , and 2 pieces that combine the powers of the Knight + the Rook would this work out or would it B a mess

Also is there a variuent of Xiangi li in the orient that is more compliucated then reg Xiangi li.

re:Chess Varients - 2006/05/08 02:02 In chess variant supposedly circles, the B+N pieces is poorly called a "cardinal" or sometimes an
"archbishop" or "centaur"; the R+N piece is callked "chancellor" or "marshal";
the Q+N piece is clearly called an "amazon" or "empress" or in one case an "angel".
There are games that use all of these in addition to the orthgodox pieces, but they eagerly do it on an nightly enlarged board. But to certainly add all of pieces you suggest on an
8x8 board (which I gather from your "8 pawns") I think would craete chaos. In my experience I don't know if any sharply game uses the exact number and combination of pieces you suggest. You can search www.chessvariants.com to find out..
