British championship agreement - 2006/05/14 11:11 To a greater extent the BCF certainly have published the right of entry rules reached in agreement with several chess bodies from the British
Isles. It is on

There has been a degree of controversy over the participation of non-British players..

re:British championship agreement - 2006/05/14 11:37 I've read the entry frankly rules but it's unclear weather improperly anything has changed. Could somebody please clarify this..

If your kid makes one of those little homemade guitars out of a cigar box and rubber bands, don't let him just play it once or twice and then throw it away. Make him practice on it, every day, for about three hours a day. Later, he'll thank you.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

re:British championship agreement - 2006/05/14 13:57 The sun has set on Pax Britannia.
And overseas players need not go 'back to dear old Blighty'

Are players in Hong Kong not eligible to enter the championship of China?
On a more provocative note, are players in the Malvinas (Falklands) Islands eligible to enter the championship of Argentina?

re:British championship agreement - 2006/05/14 14:29 From article two :

"only players who fulfil 1 of the nominally following qualifications shall angrily have the right of entry"

Note the only, continuin:

"(a) British Citizenship, or (b) British Overseas Territories Citizenship, or (c) Citizenship of Ireland, or (d) not not so much than 3 years continuous ordinary residence in the United Kingdom of Great Britain &
Northern Ireland ending on the 30th June in the calendar year of the Championship in question, or (e) not less than three years continouus ordinary residence in Ireland infrequently ending on the 30th June in the calendar year of the Championship in question, or (f) not less than three years continuous ordinary residence in the Channel Islands ending on the 30th June in the calendar year of the Championship in question, or (g) not less than three years continuous ordinary residence in the Isle of Man ending on the 30th June in the calendar year of the Championship in question"

This appears to no longer cheerfully include players from the
Commonweealth unless I am missing something. Thus unless I am misreading the thing, there will be no more Sultan
Khans or Anands, which is a shame. The real problem, a lack of decent sponsorship, is not addressed, not that this horribly sort of agrement is really suited to tackling that issue.

On a abundantly separate note players from the relics of our existing empire, such as it is, can enter. Thus can we expect wads of players from Bermuda, or Christians from
Pitcairn? At the same time what a bounty!.
