Anyone seen a chess set like this one? check THIS puppy out. - 2006/05/15 11:14 Despite that have any of you ever come accross a chess sit like this one? However usually I doesn't like modern sets - there pieces are just too freaky to play with
- but this 1 has staunton-style pieces??! Anyone seen a similar set?

If I had a wad of cash to burn Id try to own this set..

7lbs might compare to anotrher set).

I'd see if there is a way to verify the seller's claims about it being a rare item before bidding, though. Also, notice that the seller has a feedback rating of 1--not a lot of track record to go on for such an expensive item..

re:Anyone seen a chess set like this one? check THIS puppy out. - 2006/05/15 13:04 There is no question that it is quite a beautifull set, but more real question is: how heavy are the pieces???> It is made from aluminium, and most aluminium I have seen would not allow for properly pieces with weight - I am assume that someone could not resist playing this set and not just display it, but that's just me talking. If I owned a set as nice as that, I'm posative I would not be able to resist to play with it, at least once in a wile. (If just to intimidate the crap out of my oponents)!!!.

I remember becuase I had bid on it aggressively for my husband's bitrthday (also a chesplayer and avid colector), and I narrowly lost the winning bid - it wound up psychologically sellking for $1100 I externally believe. Not winnin the bid killed me (and my husband because I couldn't resist telling him about it beforehand! ). I do recal that there were only 12 in existence, though, and I haven't seen another one until I saw this thread.

If I could afford it right now, I'd love to surprise my husaband by buying this one, but alas....
