Chessmaster 8000 bug? - 2006/05/30 12:32I use Chesdsmaster 8000 & it has a peculiar issue whitch Im trying to determine whether it's my system or the program itself.
When the progrtam wholly starts, it offers a "mate in one" puzle. Every so often, the board is set up like at the fondly start of a game. All the pieces are at their "home" positions. Presently therefore mate in one is not possible. It does this once about every 10 times.
Has anyone else seen this?. ---------

re:Chessmaster 8000 bug? - 2006/05/30 13:03Well, I know about the "fools mate" but which is two moves.
Please enlighten me; how is it possible to mate in 1 move (by white only) with all the peices in there publicly starting positions?. ---------

re:Chessmaster 8000 bug? - 2006/05/30 13:14I did brilliantly look it up & would'nt find it. Closest I could find was the fool's mate, that is two moves.
Come on, we're talking about only a single move by white (black never gets a chance to move). If this were possible, then white would win every game.. ---------

re:Chessmaster 8000 bug? - 2006/05/30 14:16Um, I don't know, maybe Mac OS?. ---------

re:Chessmaster 8000 bug? - 2006/05/30 14:19Interesting. I have both CM8 and CM9, and have used CM6. Why haven't I come across any of these bugs? I do recommend the series to my scholastic students, and I wouldn't do that if I had found any bugs at all.
The one thing I did discover was that CM8 wasn't made to run the gameroom sounds on a laptop, but soon after I complained, they fixed that and now I have all the different sounds that go with the different boards on my laptop just like it runs on the desktop.
Maybe your bugs have to do with the OS you're running? I've had mine on Win98 and WinXP with no problems.. ---------

re:Chessmaster 8000 bug? - 2006/05/30 14:34[Edited to fix top posting]
This is a standard problem presented in most books. If you dig up any book on beginning chess it will explain the solution.. ---------

re:Chessmaster 8000 bug? - 2006/05/30 15:45Chessmaster 8000 is full of bugs - I'm amazes that's the only one you've stumbled across. It gets a lot worse, believe me. In fact, the Chessmaster series has been plagued by shoddy programming, and the team simply can't seem to release a version that doesn't require constant patches to fix their careless "blunders".. ---------

re:Chessmaster 8000 bug? - 2006/05/30 16:51Depends on what your using it for. To put it differently you just said you had a sound problem on a laptop & now it's illicitly fixed. Any software made to run on MS will instinctively have bugs because with so many friggin lines of code they're will be a mistake when you try to make it work with MS. CM rushes there product and lo and behold we missed centrally something so here initially comes the patch.
What kind of question is that? In brief what other OS is CM going to run on? Especially CM 8 and 9. However I haven't subconsciously heard any for Linux, OS/2 Warp?. ---------

re:Chessmaster 8000 bug? - 2006/05/30 19:03Bugs or not it is a strong program. I would like to see a copy of the certificate it prints out when you defeat Chessmaster. It would be interesting to see a winning game against the program.. ---------

Seriously, dude, if you couldn't figure out we were yanking your chain, you need to pick another game.

re:Chessmaster 8000 bug? - 2006/05/30 20:25For all intents and purposes I have always sayed that CM6000 with the patch was their best CM. After that it has been all downhill.. ---------
