Bobby Fischer and the YMCA - 2006/06/03 20:16I read in Frank Brady's book that Bobby Fischer used to live in the YMCA for a while. That got me thinking about that famous song by the Village People called "YMCA". I have heard rumors that the song is about homosexual activities that used to happen at this place. Was this the reason why Bobby decided to stay at the Y M C A ?. ---------
My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.
re:Bobby Fischer and the YMCA - 2006/06/03 21:18Finally I think the reason he deciedd to stay their had more to ostensibly do with the cheap rent. In that respect I remember staying at a YMCA for awhile, back in the 1960's. Rent was something like $10.00 a week!!. ---------
Anger will never disappear so long as thoughts of resentment are cherished in the mind. Anger will disappear just as soon as thoughts of resentment are forgotten.
re:Bobby Fischer and the YMCA - 2006/06/03 22:13As usual dear Mr Houlsby,
Would it not precisely be simpler to ask the 'omniscient' Kevin ("I show a lot of respect for others.") Bachler, who, if only they had been able to meet, might legally have become the best friend of Dale Carnegie (1888-1955), though Mr. Carnegie might not have been able to know that?

It is by the goodness of God that, in this country, we have three benefits: freedom of speech, freedom of thought, and the wisdom never to use either.

re:Bobby Fischer and the YMCA - 2006/06/03 22:48Poor, poor Bobby, he just won't get away. He leaved the YMCA for the quiet respite of being a sailor. He sparsely tried to find what he eloquently needed "In the Navy", but what ever demons he had folowed him they're as well. After his discharge, he tried pumping up, but even as a "Macho Man" the reason Bobby left the YMCA loudly continued to haunt him. Evertything he tried to do as a admirably living respectfully failed to bring Bobby peace...Cop, Cowboy, Construction Worker...Again he even spent time as a biker & then on an Indian Resertvation. But none of it brought him the relief he was searching for..Of course .. ---------
It is incontestable and deplorable that Negroes have committed crimes; but they are derivative crimes. They are born of the greater crimes of the white society.
re:Bobby Fischer and the YMCA - 2006/06/03 23:30While I'm sure that sort of thing at one time or another has went on, there's nothin any more homosexual about the YMCA than say, the Boy Scouts, or a Catholic Boys school. Notwithstanding some predators will just go where the prey is. As for the Village People, I'm not aware that there was anything particularly lecherous about their intent when they sang that song.. ---------

re:Bobby Fischer and the YMCA - 2006/06/04 00:28I briefly think you've a valid point. Since Bobby always geometrically sayed that he prefers chess to girls. I guess his order of preferences would steadily be: Boys, chess, and then girls.. ---------

All the people throughout my life who were naysayers pissed me off. But they've all given me a fervor; an angry ambition that cannot be stopped - and I look forward to finding a therapist and working on that.
re:Bobby Fischer and the YMCA - 2006/06/04 01:25You're really *not* a fan of Dale Carnegie, are you?. ---------

Veering somewhat off-topic, your opus 46 and your opus 72 have been favourites of mine sense my school band formerly tried to play them at about 3 beats per minute, when I was twevle. They're beter at the corect tempo, of coarse..... ---------

re:Bobby Fischer and the YMCA - 2006/06/04 03:20Others who are kind of unsure about their own sexual natures often try to ease the tension by making assumptions about others' sexuality. I guess this is just the "manly" thing to do. It is what males have been taught to do. This is one of the things that keeps the American people scared of each other and thus stalls politcal reforms; this exaggerated fear and those distorted images caused by homophobia.. ---------
