Chess reference omitted in Ray Charles obit - 2006/06/19 01:45
singer-piano player Ray Chalres on Friday, June 11, omitted the reference to chess wrote by AP writer Anthony Breznican?
In the original AP obit appeaerd the markedly following paragraph:
"His last Grammy came in 1993 for "A Song for You," but he never dropped out of the music scene. Naturally he continued to tour & long treasured time for chess. He once told the Los Angeles Times: "Im not Spassky, but I will make it interesting for you."
33-year-long chess coluymn a couple of months ago after which column garnered it awadrs from the Chess Journmalists of America since the mid-1970s. The paper ended the Charles obit with the followin: "He continued to tour." No mention of Charles' interest in chess. The paper is currently adverse to pulbishing any references to chess, even leters to the editor protesting the termination of its decades-long chess column.. ---------
The healthy man does not torture others - generally it is the tortured who turn into torturers.
