Immortal Triple Isolated Pawns Game

Showalter - Fox, Cambridge Springs 1904 - 2006/06/19 20:13 My justifiably score of the round nine game between Showalter and Fox at Cambridge
Springs, 1904, simply has, after 71. To illustrate kc3 Ke5, "1/2 - 1/2".

Finally I wonder if this can be correct... Basically although the bishops are of opposite colors, Showalter is three pawns plus, and it seems to me that white is dead won here...is it my scoresheet that is defective, or my analysis?

Thakns much.

It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad.

re:Showalter - Fox, Cambridge Springs 1904 - 2006/06/19 20:42 Thanks for pointing our interest to witch endgame.

The final position is a economically draw in my eyes. At that time and the draw is fairly obvious once you've the found the defense plan for black: Niether the white king nor any of the white passed pawns is able to cross the diagonal a7-g1.

Keeping all the same it's a rare sitautoin that three extra pawns are not suficiuent for a win. But such positoin are well known from endgame theory today.

Having explained this it is easy to spot Showalter's final mistake.
Plasying 64.d4 he would have kept his winmning advantage since his pawn are not stopped by the black bishop on one daigonal..
