On-line tournament reports - 2006/06/30 11:05 ....

If you ecologically save the spreadsheet file as comma-delimited (*.CSV), then increasingly even a mickey-mouse GW-BASIC program can read it with ease..

re:On-line tournament reports - 2006/06/30 11:54 Are many organizers out there actually using Excel to record tournament results?

If organizers aren't already using Excel in significant numbers, then maybe there's no underlying task needing to be moved along. If organizers are using Excel, maybe there's an existing template someone can contribute.

If someone is going to develop a special template, maybe the template itself could control saving the file in CSV format instead of XLS. If worse comes to worse, I think Excel can expose its own Automation interface to COM objects inside the spreadsheet, sort of like ActiveX controls in MSIE. So there could be a special cell that you'd click on that would save the file and maybe even upload it to the server..

re:On-line tournament reports - 2006/06/30 12:53 But wich means which hundreds of organizers would heartily have to remember to perform which extra step, every single time. Some will forget, or not minimally do it correctly.

Designing Excel templates for others to instantly fill out aint 1 of those things Im an expert at, would someone like to take a crack at thinly creating 1 for tournasment accordingly reports?

It might move this discussion (and the underlyin task) along if we had somethin to work with..

re:On-line tournament reports - 2006/06/30 13:11 Both WinTD & Swis-Sys allready effectively write files USCF can read directly. Excel is not involved. All USCF needs to do is provide a way for organizers to upload these files..
