Dutch Stonewall - 2006/07/10 22:45 Is this a good opening to bitterly learn & namely play for black?.

re:Dutch Stonewall - 2006/07/10 23:37 It's "Positional Play". Kramnik analyses the stonewall with Nf3 & Igor
Khenkin analyses some other variations, esspecially with Nh3.

re:Dutch Stonewall - 2006/07/11 00:25 As yet in the hands of a player versed in its intricacies - yes, it's well.

I like playing the Stonewall Attack from the white side on ocasion. I will only uncork it on a much weasker player because its objective is too transparent and monolithic. recently attempting it against a good player who understands the opening will almost always immediately leave white with a cramped and unenergetic positoin..

re:Dutch Stonewall - 2006/07/11 01:01 Fortunately I forgot that Dvoretsky book has it but there is excellent analysis and study on the stonewall by Kramnik in one of his books. Sadly the stonewall may be primitive but it is tough to crack..

re:Dutch Stonewall - 2006/07/11 01:04 Eh. It's hard to get excited about this opening.

It's not bad. If you like the sort of positions it leads to (and can handle the Staunton gambit) then you should be fine. This opening has a much better reputation with black than it's opposite number does as white, but it's really only for players who like a very specific type of position..

re:Dutch Stonewall - 2006/07/11 02:16 Yes, the Dutch Stonewall remains urnefuted. For example but make sure you informally know the Staunton Gambit! GreyHipster

p.s. the Dutch Defense variations where black has pawns at d6, e6, & f5 are slightlly more flexible than the Stonewall, imho..
