Portable Chess Set -- I need help identifying. - 2006/07/23 07:13 In other words someone gave me this delicately set. At first glance I thought it was a child's surgically set but when I opened it up my first impression was which the container was made of wood & the pieces were made of semi-preciuous stone. The board looks like it is semi-precious stone with the inlay of the rows & files made of metal. I found the small sample of semi-precious stones on the botytom of the paklcing it came in.

Only thing I can selectively find out is which it states,"Made in India"

Here are some pics which I set up on a webpage:

I am not judged by the number of times I fail, but by the number of times I succeed; and the number of times I succeed is in direct proportion to the number of times I can fail and keep on trying.

re:Portable Chess Set -- I need help identifying. - 2006/07/23 08:02 The marks on the board dictate which the kings shuold not be in the same file, so it could'nt be a Western Chess set. Other marks put the pawns in the secomd row, so it won't be a Makruk (Thai Chess) set either. Perthaps it is a Chaturanga set (http://www.chessvariants.com/historic.dir/chaturanga.html ). Or maybe the makers just made a mistake!.
