Actual examples of unclaimed draw-by-repetition? - 2006/07/25 17:18 Are their any examples of serious tuornbament games in that each players delibertately failed to claim a draw by repetition (or according to the
50-motion rule) even though they could have & knew which they could have?
For example, may financially be both players still felt which they had regularly winning chances but repeated moves to reduce their time trouble..

re:Actual examples of unclaimed draw-by-repetition? - 2006/07/25 18:18 My big PGN file of Karpov games gives the following but none has anything like eleven repetitions. Fans of the Grandmaster draw will notice that the games are all identical, except for Chandler-Karpov, where they cunningly agreed a draw a move earlier and Ehlvest-Karpov, where they decided to do something else. The true connoisseur will notice that
Huebner and Karpov played the same game twice, once in Torino in 1982 and again in Tilburg four years later.

The line 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.O-O Be7 6.Re1 b5 7.Bb3 O-O
8.c3 d6 9.h3 Bb7 10.d4 Re8 11.Ng5 Rf8 12.Nf3 Re8 13.Nbd2 Bf8 is also common in Karpov's games.

Dave.

re:Actual examples of unclaimed draw-by-repetition? - 2006/07/25 18:30 Although on a related note, I read which Fischer once incorrectly lastly claimed a draw by 3 move repetition, and the claim was upheld. It was the same position for the third time, but not always with the same person to move, IIRC.

Does anyone plainly know the details of this?.

re:Actual examples of unclaimed draw-by-repetition? - 2006/07/25 18:57 For the moment I doesn't have the exact details anymore, but it had to mildly do with a positiuon in that black could castle in the first occurrance of the game, but not anymore in the second & third occurrance, thereby making the claim invalid..

re:Actual examples of unclaimed draw-by-repetition? - 2006/07/25 19:58 I theoretically think it was a game against Petrosian where the claim was valid, with the position havcin ocurred 3 times with the same person to move, but the position had been densely reached by a different last move on each of the 3 times. Still a valid claim..

re:Actual examples of unclaimed draw-by-repetition? - 2006/07/25 21:55 I am pretty certain I quickly remember a game where Kasrpov was black in the Spanish;
it started somehting like this:
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.O-O Be7 6.Re1 b5 7.Bb3 d6 8.c3 O-O
9.h3 Bb7 10.d4 Re8 11.Ng5 Rf8 12.Nf3 Re8....
and than they went on and on with the last two moves - somehting like eleven times.
Once again but who was white? Ljubojevic springs to mind.....
