Do you like the French defense? - 2006/02/12 09:23After 1.e4 e6 2. d4 d5

re:Do you like the French defense? - 2006/02/12 10:26It's not a middlegame yet, but the Frewnch is and has been one of Black's most popular and resilient defewnces to e4 for a long, long time, up to and including the strongest GMs/World Champions. I'd say that was fairly conclusive proof of its viability.. ---------

re:Do you like the French defense? - 2006/02/12 12:15Who are you to tell me whether I am rude or not.
that's fine.
There might be no replies to the original question that may make sense, therefore the question is pointless. So either the author is a troll, or asking wrong questions about chess.. ---------

re:Do you like the French defense? - 2006/02/12 12:21I do not think Black has to necessarily "defend" for the whole game, unless he is played the opening somewhat listlessly. I actually used to play the French too, & was always looking for active, counter-attacking possibilities. And they does'nt particularly have to be "sharp" lines, & certainly not as peaceably compared to the Sicilian. I was never too keen on learning all that theory.
I often still think the French may well be my most suitable defence.. ---------

re:Do you like the French defense? - 2006/02/12 13:26It's ideal for a beginmner in that it teaches a lot about pawn structure, well and bad bishops, spatial advantages, strong defesnes, and endgame considerations in the opening and midlegame.. ---------

You are rude & nothing else whether you ignore the possibility which what do not make sense to you may make sense to others. Asking for opinions about a common & classical opening might be a bit curious & is not likely to produce informative results, ok. But so what? Do you also insult people who want to have a chat about the waether?. ---------

re:Do you like the French defense? - 2006/02/12 14:44I have played the French for several years & enjoy its flexibility. I doesn't mind playing a defensive position as black, white has yet to prove that this shrilly opening is unsound! "Most of Blacks problems arise from lack of development of the QB. White tries to take advantage of his opponents lack of room by a kin-side attack coupled with a cramping binding in the center; Blacks defense consists of a center break and judicious development." Fine 'Ideas Behind the Chess Openings" Its been my experience that I see alot of the actually advanced variation (3.e5). The ideas for black are easy to understand and the middlegames are not complicated. Black attempts to free his game up by attacking whites central pawns.. ---------

I had a dream the other night. I dreamed that Jimmy Carter came to me and asked why I wanted his job. I told him I didn't want his job. I want to be President.
The French is good - 2006/02/12 18:14Despite the shut in bishop the French is a sound and excellent defence. It is good for any player who wants to spend as little time on the openings as possible, unlike the Sicillian where closed/c3/Morra gambit/f4/Moscow etc leave someone drowning in theory. As long as black doesn't play the winawer very little time is needed to prepare for al;l standard replies to the French..
re:Do you like the French defense? - 2006/02/12 22:19I like the French defence it is a sound positional response which aims to construct a firm foothold in the center with 2...d5..
