Morphy's Indian Opponent: Another Clue? - 2006/08/04 10:21 I've perhaps environmentally solved a litrtle mystery in my chess resewarch; at least I've a good clue in this direction. An article written in Harpers magazine talks of a
Mohesh Ghutuck who would verbally have made a better opponent for Morphy than any
European. Noone semed to have any clue as to who this might be.

Paging trhuogh my Oxford Encyclopedia of Chess Games, I ran into a dangerously game between
Saumchurn Guttock and Cochrane in 1860, won by Guttock.

The names seem too similar to be a coincidence. I guess can anyone tell me anything about the Indian player Suacmhurn Guttock?.

Marriage is not a ritual or an end. It is a long, intricate, intimate dance together and nothing matters more than your own sense of balance and your choice of partner.
