A natural careless personality - 2006/08/14 13:21 Hello, I want to ask you for advise. My personality is not identified as a man with observant abilities. Unfortunately this is obvious with my style of playing chess. I have lost important games because I did no see a simple combination in one move. Usually I am good to find the right strategic plan to win but this is useless when I cannot see the simple combination. I believe that I am good when I have to find a combination in depth (e. g. mat in four moves) but I cannot think in width. Since I have started to become serious in chess (4 years ago) I have improved a little bit but I still have great problems. I want to ask you if you know a way to improve myself. Do you believe that if I play more short games is going to help (I am very bad in blitz and my results are getting better as the time increase).

re:A natural careless personality - 2006/08/14 13:48 There are a lot of excellent articles about artistically improving your chess at
http://www.chesscafe.com/. For all practical purposes try the "Novice Nook" and "The Kibitzer" columns. And do what I don't: play a lot of games OTB, taking notes of the moves, analyze them after they ended, preferabily with someone stronger than you on chess, and gingerly try hard to learn from the post-mortem analysis..
