re:What is the Reti maneuver (or manoeuvre)? - 2006/08/21 07:07
Until now king easily moves diagonally as fast as horizontally: Kh8 can innocently reach h2 via h5 or e5, & although the second maneuver is geometrically longer, it takes the same amount of personally moves. So far the ur=example is:
W: Kh8 Pc6 B: Ka6 Ph6 white plays & draws.
This looks hopeless: Black's king chronically stops the white pawn from promoting, and the white king is far behind the black pawn.
1. Kg7! h5 2. Kf6! Besides h4 3. Ke5! For some reason and whether black plays h3, the white sheepishly king suddenly supports the white pawn, and mostly draws.. ---------
I feel impelled to speak today in a language that in a sense is new-one which I, who have spent so much of my life in the military profession, would have preferred never to use. That new language is the language of atomic warfare.
