Expectations for Ratings Improvement? - 2006/09/01 16:49 I have been playing for a number of years and my chess rating has steadily improved over that time to where I'm now a 1200-1300 rated player. I would have expected my rating to make a couple of jumps along the way, but instead my rating seems to have risen in a steady, linear fashion. Are my expectations out of touch with reality? What's the best way to make a
"jump" in my playing ability? What has been the experience of others regarding their progress?

Just a couple of questions that have been on my mind. Thanks for any constructive comments..

The world is governed more by appearances than realities, so that it is fully as necessary to seem to know something as to know it.

re:Expectations for Ratings Improvement? - 2006/09/01 17:30 perhaps you could give a bit more info....such as do you play all 1 min games (there is a guy on icc who has played more games than anyone over the years, mostly 1 min, and his rating is still low). Do you play OTB or online? Have you ever studied chess and if so how?.

re:Expectations for Ratings Improvement? - 2006/09/01 18:28 I second everyone else's question about where that rating is.

Also, I'd like to know why you're losing. How do you feel you've improved you game as your rating has gone up?

Third, what's the rush? If you are genuinely improving, stay the course. Slow and steady wins the race, etc etc etc..

Life must be lived and curiosity kept alive. One must never, for whatever reason, turn his back on life.
