World Chapionship - 2007/09/13 02:11 Is anyone planning to follow the World Champions in Mexico? Who do you think will win?
I would guess most people would go with Kramnik, or Anand. I'm pulling for Aronian. I'm hoping he will set the board on fire with his inventive play. If there's excitment on the board during these games Aronian will provide it. Kraminik plays too safe. I know there's many who like the technically sound positions. I would guess a player of Aronian's standing would appreciate it also, but I view him as a chance taker.
I also Alexander Grischuk has a good showing. I guess most don't think he has a real chance though. So who else is following the World Championship? What do you think?

Out of curiosity, what it is in particular you like about Aronian? Opening choices? Style of play? Something else?

Re:World Chapionship - 2007/09/14 04:22 Leko is a brilliant player and a threat to win any major tournament. I was disappointed he allowed Kramnik to tie their match by losing the last game. Chess history would have been different if he could just hold the draw for that final round.

ended in draw - 2007/09/14 07:54 Actually Leko did everything he could to get a sharp position. It was Grischuk who was playing for a quiet, safe position. Did you not know that Leko was playing with Black?

Re:World Chapionship - 2007/09/14 08:25 Well for starters, speak for yourself only when you refer to yourself a patzer. I am not a patzer, but an expert. Secondly, the game of chess has changed greatly since Fischer's era. A lot of lines that were playable back then have now been refuted by computer analysis. Go listen to some Fischer interviews and you'll hear how much he truly hates the modern game of chess, with it's emphasis on opening preparation and countless hours spent behind the computer.

In the game Grischuk - Leko, Leko played 7...0-0 indicating a willingness for a fight. It was Grischuk who opted for a "safe" line with 8.h3

Re:World Chapionship - 2007/09/14 09:14 "in fact there first 20 move is a copy of line played by karjakin and onischuk in aerosvit tournament"

I heard you the first time you mentioned that. No need to repeat it, but did you hear (and understand) me? 7...0-0 is often a sign of a willingness to play the Marshall. If you know anything about Leko at all, you'll know that he's played the Marshall with black many many times. It was Grischuk who ducked out of the fight with 8.h3. Do you understand yet? I know very well that this game repeated known games that ended in draws, as do most super GM games, but as i told you twice now, it was Grischuk who ducked out of the fight, not Leko.

So much for your "database" Mr. Patzer.
