Kasparov checks Putin - 2007/10/03 03:58Interesting article in "New Yorker" about Kasparov Nomination as Candidate for Presidency by "New Russia" A lot of political intrigue, but some chess disclosing too:
Of course the article is biased, it has to sell in USA. It´s biased in everything: Kasparov, Putin, extreme left, extreme centre, extreme right, nationalism, etc. It seems an exercise to proof a cruel impartiality. In chess circles, its arrogant wording produced a strong reaction. What do you think?
Re:Kasparov checks Putin - 2007/10/03 08:40id read in the past lenins biography and armands hammer autobiography which speaks of his business dealing in russia but in particular i dont understand its pilitics...what caught my attention is that kaspy is playin chess online too....most probably in icc?hes playin chess online incognito just like fischer.....wow thats great...probably icc staff could identify kaspy ip address as well as fischer
Re:Kasparov checks Putin - 2007/10/03 11:21I think I will read these 12 pages (!) at a later time without time pressure and let it impress me. I am very much in favor for every solution to putin.
Re:Kasparov checks Putin - 2007/10/03 13:09But you don't vote in Russia Putin is going to step down by constitution (or maybe not) but the author, after calling him a new tzar, recognises that Russia needs a strong hand. Kaspy knows he will lose, perhaps wants to be "the number one loser". Korchnoi describes him as a ham actor: "in chess 2 million may applaud him, in politics there could be 200 million. Kaspy is not a bad guy, has lots of energy, is a hard-working and quick-minded solutioner and (perhaps) well intentioned. Straightforwardness can be a quality elsewhere, but not in politics, and diplomacy is not exactly his stronghold.
An egoist is a person who thinks more in him than in me
Re:Kasparov checks Putin - 2007/10/08 07:45I think Putin can't run again, but I heard he's running for parliament and then open for nomination as prime minister. Now that's planning ahead. He's not running but his anointed is a sure winner. I'm sorry for Kasparov--he doesn't have the political machinery to win. If this was chess, Kasparov is playing queen down... how can he win?
Re:Kasparov checks Putin - 2007/10/08 08:42Everything in charge there is better than Putin. I am under the distinct impression that the KGB isn't dead but just undercover and Putin (a so-called 'ex'-KGB'er) is still playing that game...
Re:Kasparov checks Putin - 2007/10/08 13:04I know that. I like "playing queen down". Kasparov also knows it. My question is why did he accept this scapegoat role. How many moves ahead did he calculate?
Re:Kasparov checks Putin - 2007/10/09 09:22That's what I mean. It is like the KGB is cheating by changing the rules of the game whenever they find it necessary.. You cannot win a cheater...
Re:Kasparov checks Putin - 2007/10/09 13:50Yes, Putin is ex-KGB. But I sometimes wonder why there are many youth groups there for Putin. Russia is being portrayed in media as a new democracy, but of course some residual socialism is still there. I guess people are less trusting of western-style democracy, and prefer 'strong' leaders (sometimes democracy produces weak leaders).
Re:Kasparov checks Putin - 2007/10/09 16:45Putin decided to wear a very honourable suit and step down according to Constitution. He refused what "people asked him" and will run as Prime Minister. Kasparov will certainly lose the election and part of prestige as well. He is perceived as an "American tool". That's why I asked how many moves ahead did he calculate. In the tournament I'm just paying I asked a Russian why K looked for and accepted such a scapegoat nomination. "He is not such idiot!" I added. The answer was: "Possibly, in politics, he is precisely such idiot, but people involved in politics can make lots of money!"
Re:Kasparov checks Putin - 2007/10/10 09:00If nobody would challenge a rogue system follower (Putin) than nobody would even be made aware there are other options. He probably will lose, but he wins in that he stands up. Not only things you can see are a win, there are different classifications in victory - as in opposite of chess.
Re:Kasparov checks Putin - 2007/10/10 12:13You would be perfectly right talking about an "authentic democracy" which is as utopic as say, "authentic communism". On this planet, "democracy" and "totalitarianism" are just 2 ways of manipulating people by some SOB for other SOB. In given conditions, one system can just be more effective than other. Of course, the hystory cannot stop with contempt, that would be disastruous.
Re:Kasparov checks Putin - 2007/10/12 16:52That is perfectly right, in fact it's the main difference advocating for democracy: thieves only want the money; bandits, mafia, fanatics may kill one, even without economic reason. Unvaluable human's life should be the principle of all systems!
Re:Kasparov checks Putin - 2007/10/12 19:49seems the russian public are strong behind putin. speaking to the common person on the street, they all feel so much better than under the ruling of jelzin. so was my impression during last visits in moscow.
unfortunatly with the great liberty under jelzin no only free markets and some billionairs were created but most people lost savings, jobs and housing, so the memory for the liberal days in the 90ies are not so good for russian. this was different for people in the west. now I read the income groths is about 30% a year.
seems to me more: vladimir (putin) will become the great as peter hundred years ago. but kaspi will be a gm forever! and better of than before.
why does does the western public so much complain about russia and not china?
Re:Kasparov checks Putin - 2007/10/13 00:13Perhaps they don't like that Russia is getting stronger. If income growth is 30% per year, and that is fairly distributed, in a few years that may become the best country to live in. Unfortunately, most prices grow up in the same proportion or even quicker. The GM title forever is wobbling now as the American Federation wants to press FIDE to take it out from Fischer. This mixture of a sportive game with politics may lead to the hilarious situation when Russia will recognize Fischer as the gratest player of all times, while America - Kasparov
Re:Kasparov checks Putin - 2007/10/13 10:23Russia has always sought and will always seek 'world power' by their system. I don't believe one word about communism (as they understand it) to be dead. That's why, Sokol.
I have, btw, seen completely different interviews with non-urban russians... they were not satisfied at all. The only problem is that they were not exposed to alternatives: not enough publication was given to Putins aversaries in the political system.
Re:Kasparov checks Putin - 2007/10/13 19:47russia was weak under the communists in the 80ies, people just did not kown it! only reagan... in the 90ies it was even weaker for all the world and for the lokal people. and their currency and savings went bust in 98! jelzin was ill and loved vodka too much! almost no one paid taxes! no good conditions for a goverment.
when putin started it was even worst!! you
as the largest country in the world with the biggest natural resources on hand why russia should not play a major rule in the world?
I am much more nervous about red china. 1,3 bio people run under a strong dictatorship!! and they expanding all over, see afrika...
russia and europe have almost 1000 year of common history, relationships and boarders..
Now putin will run for parlament in december, so he will be there, so we can calculate what will be ahead, no chnages.
