Logical Chess Move by Move Game 1

I've started working my way through Chernev's logical chess move by move and I have a question about a position in the first game...

    [Date "2007.04.14"]
    [Round "?"]
    [White "von Scheve"]
    [Black "Teichmann"]
    [Result "0-1"]
    [EventDate "1907.??.??"]
    [Annotator "Chernev, I"]
[Book "Logical Chess MBM Game 1"]

    1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.c3 Qe7 5.O-O d6 6.d4 Bb6 7.a4 a6 8.a5 Ba7 9.h3 Nf6 10.dxe5 Nxe5 11.Nxe5 Qxe5 12.Nd2 Bxh3 13.gxh3 Qg3+ 14.Kh1 Qxh3+ 15.Kg1 Ng4 16.Nf3 Qg3+ 17.Kh1 Bxf2 0-1

Chernev makes no mention of an alternative, but why not 16. Bxf7+ which seems to give white some counterplay?

The best I can figure from there is something like:

    16. Bxf7+ Kxf7 17. Qf3+ Qxf3 18. Nxf3

Sure, white's still in bad shape, but he's not trapped in the quick mate?

16.Bxf7+ is much better than the move that was played. But, greed is a strong psychological motivation. White obviously wants to hang onto the extra piece.

Although 16.Bxf7+ is a much better move than the one played, it still loses.

    After 16.Bxf7+, black plays 16...Ke7!

If 17.Nf3 Rhf8, 18.Bg5+ Black can play Kd7 with the threat of Rxf7 with renewed threats against h2 or Kxf7, then the White King gets chased up towards h5 and h4 squares and the black h pawn becomes a killer.

    For example, 16.Bxf7+ Ke7!, 17.Nf3 Rhf8, 18.Bg5+ Kxf7, 19.Qd5+ Kg6, 20.Nh4+ Kh5, 21.Bf6+ Ne5, 22.Qd1+ Qg4+, 23.Qxg4+ Nxg4, 24.Bxg7 Kxh4!!

White has a pretty hopeless position here. Black STILL has kingside pressure and pressure against f2. He's got 2 minor pieces for a rook. He's got a deadly passed pawn on the h file, which is ready to march.
